Before I get into these Hoisin Sriracha Green Beans, let’s talk about the weather for a second.
Have you ever lived in the state of North Carolina?
If you haven’t, we have some of the weirdest weather in all of America. Not sure if that’s actually a scientific fact but it definitely feels that way. There’s even a saying that goes something like:
“Don’t like the weather in North Carolina? Just give it a minute.”
For example, a little under two weeks ago we were covered in ice where I live, snow AND ice in other parts of the state. Four to five days later it was 70 degrees ya’ll. Sevundee. In January. On Christmas? We barbecued. Not even a joke. Look at this face. 😐 Super serious.
Now they say that Mr. Punxsutawney Phil, aka The Groundhog, has determined that spring will be here sooner rather than later and I believe him. In fact, I’m not even sure winter ever fully arrived. I had peppers and tomatoes growing well into November this year which is kind of incredible.
With spring approaching that means it will be time to put down seeds again and the first crop for many gardeners is some kind of bean or pea. They’re super easy to grow and they love to grow in the cool spring temperatures. I’ve grown beans a few times and I always love how, depending on the variety, the vines just stretch every which way looking for new real estate to conquer.
My whole life growing up we had green beans one of two ways: with butter+salt+pepper and with bacon+salt+pepper (which I later learned is referred to as ‘Southern Style’). That’s it. And they were out of the can. Don’t pity me too much, I promise my childhood wasn’t all THAT bad. 😂
Asian Inspired Green Beans
It wasn’t until I was older and started experimenting and trying new things that I found I love Asian inspired green beans. You put soy sauce in any capacity on green beans and I’m here for it. I love how the saltiness works with the beans, which actually require a lot of salting in my opinion. I added sriracha to these Hoisin Sriracha Green Beans because sriracha is life even though it made a few waves a couple years ago.
Sriracha is life
These Hoisin Sriracha Green Beans aren’t your regular ol butter+salt+pepper green beans. They’re delightfully salty with a kick of spice to balance. You can always up the heat factor by adding more sriracha, just taste it after you make the original recipe and then adjust to your liking. I think these green beans would be amazing on the grill, brushed with a little of the sauce. But what isn’t amazing on the grill?
